Acupuncture For IVF/ART is a complementary therapy proven to increase the success rates of IVF and other assisted reproductive technologies (ART).
What is ART?
ART stands for Assisted Reproductive technology, which can be used for couples who are unable to conceive children by natural means. This can be due to male or female infertility or both. Conditions suitable for this type of intervention include 2 blocked fallopian tubes, history of ectopic pregnancies, structural issues, pelvic adhesions and stage 4 endometriosis in women, and azoospermia or structural anomalies in men.
These assisted reproductive technologies are offered at fertility clinics in Johannesburg such as Vitalab, Medfem, BioArt and HART Parklane fertility centre.
Assisted Reproductive Technologies (ART) includes the following:
In Vitro Fertilization (IVF)
Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI)
Intrauterine Insemination (IUI)
Frozen Embryo Transfer (FET)
Gamete Intrafallopian Transfer (GIFT)
Zygote Intrafallopian Transfer (ZIFT)
How successful are ART treatments?
Statistics of the success of these treatments are sub-divided into age categories and differ between clinics.
Statistics reported by Vitalab, Medfem, BioArt and HART are Clinical Pregnancy Rates (CPR):
Under 35 years: 42-65%
Between 35-39 years: 35-51%
Over 39 years: 20-33%
How can we help you on your fertility journey? Can these success rates be improved with complementary treatments?
Over two decades of research shows that the addition of complementary treatments including electroacupuncture & guided lifestyle changes before an IVF cycle increases the success rate, as compared with IVF alone, by between 30-60% in first time IVF/ART patients.
In previously failed IVF cycles, electroacupuncture when added to IVF increased clinical pregnancy rates by up to 60% and live births by 42% across all age categories.
Men undergoing ICSI or other ART/IVF procedures can benefit from prior complementary electroacupuncture treatments to improve their sperm parameters and likelihood of success.
